COMBATTING
PALM OIL
THE EFFECTS OF PALM OIL ON ORANGUTANS.
A big part of the mission of the San Francisco Orangutan Project is combatting the palm oil industry. Palm oil is found in almost everything; from toothpaste to your favorite snacks, it is the most wildly consumed vegetable oil in the world.
Indonesia and Malaysia produce 85% of the world's palm oil, and deforestation has become the number one threat to Orangutan populations. In Sumatra alone, more than 38,000 sqr miles have been cleared to be used to produce palm oil. Parts of the forests are burned down, leaving the surviving Orangutans confused, lost, and frantic.
At SFOP we do everything we can to fight the grip that the palm oil industry has on the world. We encourage fellow citizens of the world to be mindful of the palm oil they consume and avoid it if inclined.
