GUNUNG PALUNG
ORANGUTAN
CONSERVATION PROGRAM
I, Alejandro Merritt, have begun an internship with the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program. They are an amazing organization that I am excited to work with. I will be doing various projects including fundraising, graphic design work, and creating a textual compilation of academic articles relating to orangutans.
ABOUT GPOP.

Dr. Cheryl Knott

Founded in 1994 by orangutan researcher Dr. Cheryl Knott, the Gunung Palung Orangutan Foundation has been researching orangutans for over 20 years in the Gunung Palung National Park. Located in on the western side of Indonesian Borneo, Gunung Palung National Park is home to an estimated 2,500 orangutans. Through partnerships with the local community, national park, and government, GPOP has been working to prevent orangutans from both immediate and longterm threats. Initially a research organization, GPOP has since evolved into a research and conservation driven non-profit. They operate five main conservation programs: Environmental Education, Conservation Awareness, Sustainable Livelihoods, Customary Forests, and Wildlife Crime Investigation. GPOP is an incredible organization dedicated to protecting research, education, and protection of orangutans. I am very excited to begin my work with them.
